HowTo: FM Transmitter mod.  (Ken Gifford)

Step 1 : Model of the transmitter

I picked up a Belkin Tunecast F8V367 on Amazon the other day for 4 bucks. I got it in the mail the other day and I could barely get 10 feet of transmission. I made this VERY simple modification and now I can get a distance of about 2 unobstructed city blocks.

Step 2 : Open it up!

To open it all you have to do is remove the batteries and then take out the 2 phillips screws and then carefully pry on the side that has the friction fit peg (side by the passed sticker).

Step 3 : Add the Modification

The end of the PCB where the wires come in from the plug has 4 wires connecting from the plug. The blue wire is the antenna and is soldered into a hole marked ANT on the PCB. If you unsolder this wire and replace it with a seperate wire about 32" long your transmission distance will increase.

Step 4 : Put it back together.

I just ran my wire out the same hole the plug wires go out and didnt have a problem. Put the friction peg back in its hole, replace the 2 screws and the modification is done.

Step 5 : Cautions.

I am not sure exactly how legal this is to broadcast with this thing. It only goes a couple blocks which is less than most walkie talkies and such. Make this mod at your own risk, knowledge of soldering is a good thing. Be carefull when re-assembling as the battery wires like to get in the way, I ran a screw through one and had to replace it.
